Dear Principal,

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasises on multilingualism to strengthen national integration, cultural understanding and communication skills. In alignment with these objectives and to provide students with joyful and experiential opportunities to learn one more Indian language, Bharatiya Bhasha Summer Camp (BBSC)-2026 shall be organised across schools during the summer vacation.

The initiative aims to promote the spirit of “Learn One More Bharatiya Bhasha” through joyful language-learning experiences for students. The camps are designed to expose learners to different Indian languages and cultures and to develop basic conversational skills in any Indian language other than their mother tongue.

School-Level Action Points -The camp may be conducted in physical mode, as per feasibility, for approximately 28 hours (2 hours per day for 7 days) and the schools may-

  • Organise the camp during summer vacation or, where vacations are over, through weekend sessions/after-school hours.
  • Appoint one nodal teacher with the support of other teachers may plan and organise programme at school level for each day of the summer camp.
  • Choose any Indian language based on student interest, local context, or availability of resource persons.
  • Encourage language teachers, art/music teachers, parents, volunteers, alumni, local experts, NGOs, and special educators to participate as resource persons.
  • Utilise PM e-Vidya resources and materials developed by NCERT and other institutions.
  • Maintain participation records and photographs/videos of activities.
  • Encourage formation of Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad/Language Clubs for continued language learning.
  • Award participation certificates to students and teachers/resource persons.

While organizing the Summer Camps, the schools must follow the instructions/guidelines of local administration regarding heat wave etc., and make proper arrangements for drinking water for all participants. The safety and security of the participants shall be the responsibility of the school.

Suggestive Day-wise Activities for BBSC-2026

Day

Activities Suggestive Pedagogy
Day 1 Basic greetings and expressions, alphabets, numbers, signatures, etc. Role play, Flash cards, etc.
Day 2 Virtual City tour/Real-life conversation practices A/V tools, etc. Role-play – shopping, ordering food at a restaurant, at the bus stop asking for directions, making others understand road traffic rules, etc., how to converse with local auto/ bus drivers, civilians, etc.
Day 3 Art (Music/ Dance/ Painting) Sing Along, names of unique instruments, usage of Song Sheets, dance steps/ local painting styles/ objects/ artefacts through videos, or by inviting a resource  person  for  a  talk,  etc.  from  local

community.

Day 4 Local Cuisines (name of spices/ vegetables/ fruits) Traditional items/ dishes can be prepared by students with the help of teachers.
Day 5 Culture appreciation, Development of listening skills; Awareness about the local heroes / freedom fighters/ artists/ eminent people, etc. A/V tools, watching of short children/social film in the concerned language with sub titles in Hindi/ English/ known language

Puppetry/ nukkad natak etc. Short story telling

Day 6 Knowledge          of                        History, Geography    by    knowing                        the names        of                             Rivers/ Mountains/Historical Monuments, etc. Usage of Physical maps in Atlas, A/V resource material, etc.
Day 7 Traditional Games & Motivation and Closure Traditional language-based games viz. Antakshari (word chain game using song titles or words), Word based games viz. Tongue Twisters, Word association games (connecting words based on meanings or sounds), etc. Performance by children before parents, quiz and certificate distribution.

Indian Sign Language (ISL)

In line with the RPwD Act, 2016 and NEP 2020, schools are encouraged to introduce students to Indian Sign Language (ISL) by using available NIOS and PM e-Vidya resources and by collaborating with local NGOs/special educators wherever feasible.

You are requested to ensure enthusiastic participation of students and to make the initiative a vibrant celebration of India’s linguistic diversity and cultural richness.
