Subject: Universal Postal Union (UPU) 2026 International Letter Writing Competition for Young People – reg.
The Department of Posts is organising the 55th edition of Universal Postal Union (UPU) 2026 International Letter Writing Competition for Young People. The theme of the competition is – Write a letter to a friend about why human connection matters in a digital world.
The aim of the competition is to develop creativity, composition skills and depth of thought among young people, while also promoting international friendship and understanding.

The International Bureau (IB) of the UPU, which coordinates this competition, will select three prize winners from among the best entries received from each member country. The winners will be awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, along with certificates and other prizes as decided by the UPU. The Gold Medalist may also be offered a visit to the UPU Headquarters in Berne, Switzerland, or an alternative prize at the discretion of the UPU. Participants receiving special mentions will also be awarded certificates and other prizes. Details of the Competition along-with the rules for the participants are enclosed as Annexure-I and II.
The Department of Posts shall select best three entries at National level as well as Circle level and will be given cash prizes and certificates. The best entry at the National level shall qualify as the official Indian entry for the UPU level International Competition. The language to be used in holding the competition will be English or any of the recognised languages embodied in the 8th Schedule of our Constitution.
You are requested to organise this competition in your school in consultation with the Nodal Officers of your respective Circles/Regions. The list of the Nodal Officers of respective States/Circles will be communicated in due course and the same would also be made available on the India Posts’ website.
