Madam/Sir,
As per the recommendations of NEP 2020, CBSE has introduced the Two Board Examination Policy, notified on 25 June 2025. Under this policy, Class X students will be given an opportunity to improve their performance in up to three subjects during the Second Board Examinations scheduled in May 2026.

2. This circular explains all the action needed to be taken by schools for the submission of the LOC for the Second Board Examinations. Principals are requested to go through the instructions mentioned and initiate action accordingly for timely submission of LOC for the Class X Second Board Examinations 2026.
3. How to proceed for LOC submission LOC will be submitted by the schools for all desirous students. As for the first time, CBSE will hold the Second Board Examinations in Class X, hence, to know the correct figure of students who wish to appear in the Second Board Examinations and to also to know the subjects in which they wish to appear, CBSE has decided to make the schedule of submission of LOC in such a manner that all required information is available with the CBSE in advance to make the foolproof preparations of the examination.
The schedule is as follows:-

Lines will be opened till 11.59.59 PM on last working day as per schedule given above.
4. Expectation from the Principals
The following are expected from the Principal of the schools to the students and their parents:-
- (a) be guided about rules of Second Board Examinations and use of this facility only in dire need.
- (b) be informed about the eligibility criteria and the schedule of submission and payment of fee.
- (c) be informed that as examination centres would be limited in number, hence, their examination centre might not be nearer.
- (d) no examination centre will be changed once allotted.
- (e) be advised that who so ever wishes to appear in the Second Board Examination because of any reason, they should submit LOC during 1st phase as this will help CBSE in the advanced preparation. However, students can decide finally based on the declaration of result and then pay the examination fee. Students who decide based on their result may submit both LOC and the examination fee during 2nd phase.
- (f) Candidates appeared in the main examinations and placed in compartment, such candidates need to re-submit their LOC afresh as their improvement subject criteria might change.
- (g) Students from the Middle East countries where examinations have been cancelled, they can submit their LOC after declaration of result in 2ndphase.
5. Condition to appear in Second Board Examinations
- (a) It is mandatory for all the students to appear in the first Board examination.
- (b) All passed and eligible students are allowed to improve their performance in any of the three subjects out of Science, Mathematics, SocialScience and languages.
- (c) If a student has not appeared in 3 or more subjects in first examination, then s/he is not eligible to appear in the 2nd examination. Such students are allowed to appear in the main examination only next year in the month of February. Accordingly, they will not able to submit LOC.
- (d) For students whose result m the first examination is Compartment, such students are allowed to appear in second examination under Compartment Category.
- (e) No new names will be added to the LOC of the 2nd examination.
- (f) Subject change are not allowed from first examination to second examinations except permitted as per policy in case of Mathematic.
- (g) No correction in the student’s data from first examination to second examination is allowed.
- (h) Candidates who were registered as CWSN candidate in the first examination will only be extended facilities as provided by the CBSE. No new candidate is allowed under CWSN category in the Second Board Examinations.
6. Improvement in Internal Assessment
There is no facility of improvement of performance in internal assessment as it is a yearlong exercise.
7. Eligibility Criteria for Appearing in the Second Board Examinations
The eligibility to appear in the second examination is as follows:
- (a) a student must have appeared in at least 3 examinations in the first Examinations,
- (b) Must have pass Class X for appearing in improvement
- (c) Placed in compartment category.
- (d) Passed Class X by replacing with the 6th subject.
- (e) Students placed under UFM category 1 (if otherwise eligible).
- (f) Students placed in Compartment category in 2025 examinations.
- (g) Any student who has not appeared in 03 or more subjects 1n the 2026 Main examination is not eligible for the Second Board Examination.
- (h) Improvement category up to 3 main subjects out of Science, Mathematics, Social Science and language
- (i) First/Third Chance Compartment
- (j) Compartment+ Improvement
- (k) Improvement for the students passed by the replacement of the subject.
- (l) Sports students whowere given permission by the Board.
- (m) If a student has not appeared because of any reasons/ failed in 3 or more subjects in the First Examination then he/she is not eligible to appear for the Second Board Examinations.
- (n) Students placed in the ER category are not eligible for the Second Board Examinations. They are allowed next year in the main examinations.
8. Syllabus and Scheme of Examinations
The Second Board Examination will be conducted on the syllabus of first examination meant for the year.
Rest of the instructions will remain the same as per the circular of LOC for the main/first examinations and the two examination policy.
It is expected that the schools will read the guidelines carefully, collect the correct data of the students & submit the same correctly.
