SETTING UP OF AIIMS LIKE INSTITUTUIONS

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government proposes to set up new AIIMS Institutes in the country, if so the details thereof State/UT wise;

(b) whether some AIIMS Institutes set up in the country are not fully operational, if so the details thereof and the time by which said Institutes are likely to be fully operational including in Deoghar (Jharkhand) and Madurai (Tamil Nadu);

(c) whether the Government has proposed to update some medical colleges into AIIMS Institutes in the country, if so the details thereof State/UT-wise and college-wise; and

(d) whether a number of States/UTs have requested to set up new AIIMS like institutions, if so, the State/UT wise details thereof along with its current status particularly in ESIC Kalaburagi?

ANSWER

(a) & (b) 22 AIIMS have been announced/sanctioned to be set up under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY). Out of which, six (06) AIIMS i.e. Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur and Rishikesh are functional. Other 16 AIIMS are in various stages of their construction. Timelines for their completion are as per Annexure-I.
(c) Under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, existing Government Medical Colleges/Institutions (GMCIs) are upgraded through establishment of Super-speciality blocks/Trauma Centre. List of GMCIs being upgraded under PMSSY is as per Annexure-II.

(d) Requests from Government of Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur have been received for setting up of AIIMS in the State.

AIIMS for the above States including at ESIC Kalaburagi have not been sanctioned.
