Subject: Dissemination of Advisory to Students Regarding Verification of Higher Educational Institutions (HEls) to Avoid Admission in Fake Universities.
This is in reference to letter No. 7-3/2012/(AMPC) dated 11.12.2025, received from the Secretary , University Grants Commission (UGC), addressed to the Secretary, CBSE, regarding the dissemination of an advisory to students for verifying Higher Educational Institutions (HEls) to avoid admission in fake universities.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has informed that they publishes Public Notices annually and regularly updates the list of fake universities and unrecognized institutions on its official website. This initiative aims to create awareness among students, parents, and other stakeholders and to advise them against seeking admission in self-styled and unrecognized institutions, as such admissions may seriously jeopardize students’ academic and professional careers.
As the admission process for the Academic Session 2026-2027 is currently underway , it is imperative to create awareness at an early stage to alert students and parents and safeguard their interests .
In this context, all CBSE-affiliated schools are directed to disseminate the following advisory among students and parents:
- Schools shall inform and counsel students of Classes X and XII, along with their parents/guardians, about the risks associated with fake universities.
- Students must be advised to verify the recognition status of Higher Educational Institutions (HEls) on the official UGC website (www.ugc.ac.in) under the main menu tab “HEls.”
- The advisory should be prominently displayed on school notice boards and disseminated through school websites, circulars, and during Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) .
- Students should be encouraged to apply for admission only to UGC-recognized HEls.
All schools are requested to ensure strict compliance with the above directions in the interest of safeguarding students from falling prey to self-styled and unrecognized educational institutions.
