DPIIT Approves 187 Startups for Tax Relief Under Revised Section 80-IAC, Extending Eligibility to 2030

In a significant advancement for India’s startup ecosystem, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has granted approval to 187 startups for income tax exemption under the newly revised Section 80-IAC of the Income Tax Act. This decision was made during the 80th meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Board (IMB), which convened on April 30, 2025.

A DPIIT spokesperson stated that this tax benefit enables eligible startups to claim a 100% income tax deduction on profits for any three consecutive years within a ten-year period from their date of incorporation. This initiative aims to bolster emerging businesses in their initial stages, promoting innovation, job creation, and wealth generation.

Of the total approvals, 75 startups received clearance during the 79th IMB meeting, while 112 were approved in the recent 80th meeting. To date, over 3,700 startups have benefited from exemptions since the inception of the scheme.

During the Union Budget 2025–26, the government announced an extension of the eligibility window for startups to apply for benefits under Section 80-IAC. Startups incorporated before April 1, 2030, are now eligible, providing additional time and opportunities for new ventures to access this financial relief.

Notably, the revised evaluation framework established by DPIIT has enhanced the application process, making it more structured and transparent. Complete applications will now be reviewed within 120 days, resulting in quicker decision-making and minimized procedural delays.

Startups that were not approved in this latest round are encouraged to reassess and refine their applications. The DPIIT has advised these applicants to emphasize their technological innovation, market potential, scalability, and clear contributions to employment and economic growth.

The government’s ongoing support underscores its commitment to nurturing a robust, future-ready startup environment that aligns with the vision of a self-reliant and innovation-driven New India.
