CGHS Introduces Cutting-Edge Health Management Information System (HMIS) to Revolutionize Healthcare Services
The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) has officially launched a new Health Management Information System (HMIS) to modernize its services and improve user experience. This digital platform, which went live on April 28, 2025, replaces the outdated system that had been in place since 2005, providing CGHS beneficiaries with faster, more transparent, and user-friendly access to healthcare services.
Developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), the new HMIS is designed to offer automated verification and real-time tracking for beneficiaries. To facilitate this transition, all CGHS Wellness Centres were temporarily closed to the public on April 26, 2025, and previous CGHS websites were shut down. Beneficiaries will need to reset their passwords during their first login to access the updated services.
In conjunction with these enhancements, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has revised the payment guidelines for CGHS contributions. As of April 28, 2025, all payments must be made through the official CGHS website, eliminating the previous manual payment process via the Bharatkosh portal. The Ministry’s directive emphasizes that, “28th April onwards, CGHS Contribution shall be only through the CGHS website, i.e., http://www.cghs.mohfw.gov.in.”
Key features of the new HMIS include:
- PAN-based ID for Beneficiaries: Unique PAN-linked IDs aim to reduce duplication, requiring users to link their PAN through the new portal.
- Auto-verification of Contributions: Payments will now be automatically verified through Bharat Kosh integration, with all transactions processed via the new CGHS site.
- Pre-payment Eligibility Checks: Applications will undergo verification before payment, minimizing errors and rejections.
- Fully Online Card Modifications: Users can now handle transfers, dependent updates, and status changes digitally.
- Real-time Tracking & Alerts: Beneficiaries will receive SMS and email notifications at each stage of the process, enhancing transparency.
- Secure Login with Mandatory Password Reset: First-time logins will require a password reset to comply with cybersecurity standards.
- Accurate Department Mapping via DDO/PAO Codes: Employee department details will be auto-mapped using pay slip codes.
- Revamped CGHS Mobile App: The updated app provides features like a digital CGHS card, live tracking, e-referrals, appointments, and direct support access.
Additionally, the government has introduced the ‘myCGHS’ mobile app, which enables users to manage card-related services online, including transferring cards, adding dependants, and changing card types.
Existing data, such as medication purchase records and referral history, will remain secure during the transition, ensuring the privacy and integrity of beneficiary information. However, beneficiaries should note that applications under the old payment system will be cancelled if payments are not completed by April 27, 2025, necessitating a reapplication via the new portal for affected individuals.
To aid in this transition, master trainers have been deployed across various CGHS offices to assist beneficiaries and employees in navigating the new system. This initiative aims to enhance transparency and convenience in healthcare services, particularly benefiting pensioners and the elderly.
