EMPLOYMENT OF TRANSGENDER PERSONS IN CENTRAL GOVERNMENT BODIES

Will the Minister of SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EMPOWERMENT be pleased to state:-
(a) the total number of transgender persons employed in various Ministries, Departments, agencies, statutory bodies, and Central Government-run institutions as on date;
(b) how many transgender persons have been recruited in the Central Government bodies during the last five years, year-wise;
(c) the number of these appointments that are permanent versus contractual; and
(d) what special measures or recruitment drives the Ministry has taken to increase representation, ensure retention and provide equal opportunity to transgender persons in Government service?

(a) to (d) The Department has issued “Equal Opportunity Policy for Transgender Persons” to ensure inclusive, non-discriminatory work environments and to facilitate equitable access to employment opportunities, etc., for transgender persons.
Further, the Department, through the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD), has undertaken initiatives to enhance employment opportunities for transgender persons. Job melas are being organised in collaboration with the TWEET Foundation, since 2022-23 resulting in placements of 223 Transgender persons.
