SHORTAGE OF EMPANELLED HOSPITALS UNDER ECHS FOR EX-SERVICEMEN

Will the Minister of Defence be pleased to state:
(a) whether Government is aware of shortage of hospitals empanelled under the ECHS that has resulted in the denial of essentail health services to ex-servicemen in the country;
(b) if so, whether Government has any plan to increase the number of empanelled hospitals under the ECHS;
(c) if so, the details thereof;
(d) if not, the reasons therefor; and
(e) the list of hospitals in the State of Kerala empanelled under the ECHS currently?

MINISTER OF STATE (SHRI SANJAY SETH) IN THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE
(a) to (e) Presently, there are 2,807 hospitals empanelled across India under the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS). The number of empanelled hospitals has risen from 2,505 in FY 2023-24. The ECHS hospital empanelment procedure has been simplified and made online with effect from April, 2025 for ensuring transparency and faster processing. Provisions for empanelling hospitals in Tier-II and Tier-III cities have also been simplified. The list of 152 ECHS empanelled hospitals in the State of Kerala is attached as Annexure ‘A’.
