NUMBER OF POST OFFICES
4817. SHRI AJAY NISHAD:
Will the Minister of COMMUNICATIONS be pleased to state:
(a) the details of the number of post offices across the country including Bihar and Jharkhand including the total number of savings accounts in these post offices, State/UT-wise;
(b) whether there has been an increase in the number of such accounts during the last three years and if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to provide digital banking services to the said post office savings account holders, if so, the details thereof;
(d) the details of the services being provided to these account holders; and
(e) the details of the scheme, if any proposed by the Government for these account holders?
ANSWER
MINISTER OF STATE FOR COMMUNICATIONS 

SHRI DEVUSINH CHAUHAN
(a) & (b). Number of post offices across country including Bihar and Jharkhand and the total number of savings accounts in these post offices, State/UT-wise, is attached as Annexure – A. There is no increase in number of such accounts during the last three years.
(c) & (d).   Digital banking services have been made available to these account holders through CBS (Core Banking Solution) and IPPB (India Post Payments Bank). The following services are provided to these account holders.
  • Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) facilities
  • Internet Banking & Mobile Banking
  • National Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT) / Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) services for transfer of funds from post office to bank and vice versa
  • Electronic Clearing Services (ECS) facility – for crediting the interest & maturity amount in bank accounts
  • e-Passbook facility to view the balance and mini-statement
  • India Post Payments Bank – Post Office Savings Accounts linkage services for all
  • types of digital transactions Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) facility
(e). There is no new scheme under proposal for these account holders.
