PHASING OUT OF VEHICLES AS PER BS-VI EMISSION NORMS

Will the Minister of ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS be pleased to state:
 
(a) whether the Government has issued any SOP/directive for private bus operators and cab aggregators to phase out vehicles in their fleet as per existing BS-VI emission norms and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Government has data on reduced level of air pollution because of the implementation of BS-VI emission norms across the country and if so, the details thereof;

(c) the observational data collected on the reduced levels of Sulphur Oxides (SOx), Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) and Particulate Matter (PM) during the Financial Year (FY) 2022-23 vis-a-vis FY 2019-20;

(d) whether the Government maintains any record of the number of automobiles manufactured in the country complying with the BS-VI emission norms during 2022-2023 out of the total annual manufacturing capacity; and

(e) if so, the details thereof, particularly for two and three-wheelers?

(a) No such directives have been given to private bus and cab operators to phase out vehicles in their fleet as per existing BS-6 emission norms.
(b) and (c) The BS-VI compliant fuel has many environmental benefits, compared to BS-IV fuel, which are described below:-
(1) The content of sulphur in BS-IV fuel is 50ppm, however in BS-VI fuel it is 10ppm, which is 1/5th of the BS-IV limit.
(2) During testing of BS VI compliant vehicles:-
  • NOx emissions is reduced by 68% in diesel cars and by 25% in petrol cars;
  • Particulate emission matter is reduced by 41.2% in 3-wheeler diesel engine;
  • Reduction in particulate matter from BS IV to BS VI is as high as 82% in the case of 4-wheelers;
  • Reduction in particulate matter is 66.7% in heavy duty vehicle.
(d) and (e) As per the information available in the VAHAN-4 centralized database of RC (registration Certificate), the records of the number of automobiles registered in the country, complying with the BS-6 standards out of the total vehicle registered in FY 2022–2023 and the details for two and three-wheelers for FY 2022-23 are as under:-
