Healthcare facilities to the military personnel including ex-servicemen

4043.  SHRI ASHOK MAHADEORAO NETE:

Will the Minister of DEFENCE be pleased to state:

(a) the details of the provisions made to provide healthcare facilities to the military personnel including ex-servicemen and their dependents;

(b) whether the treatment facilities under Ayurveda and Unani system of medicine have been started in the military hospitals; and

(c) if so, the details of the military hospitals providing treatment facilities to the military personnel, ex-servicemen and their dependents under Ayurveda and Unani system of medicine?

(a): Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) provide primary care, secondary and super-speciality care to the military personnel and their dependents through 135 hospitals, 96 Station Medicare Centres and 49 Sick bays.

In addition, serving personnel in the Armed Forces deployed at forward areas are provided medical care by 99 Field Hospitals.

Ex-servicemen and their dependents are covered for healthcare under the Ex- servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS). ECHS takes care of the healthcare and medical needs of Ex-servicemen and their dependents through a network of 30 ECHS Regional Centres, 427 polyclinics and 3097 Empanelled Health Care Organizations pan India. Additionally, the ex-servicemen, their spouse and dependent children under the age of 25 years are also entitled for treatment in AFMS hospitals.

(b): Ayurveda Out Patient Departments (OPDs) have been operationalised on 01 June 2022 at 12 AFMS hospitals for a period of two years with the assistance of Ministry of AYUSH. However, there is no provision for treatment facilities under Unani system of medicine at AFMS hospitals.

(c): Details of AFMS hospitals providing treatment facilities to the dependents of serving Armed Forces personnel, Ex-servicemen and their dependents under Ayurveda are at Annexure.
