ROLE OF AB-PMJAY IN CURTAILING OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENDITURE

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) scheme has successfully contributed in curtailing Out-of-Pocket expenditures in the country; and
(b) if so, the details thereof, year-wise?

(a) & (b): As of 21st March, 2022, hospital admissions worth Rs. 37,185 crore are authorised under Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) since the inception of the scheme from 23.09.2018. Year-wise break-up thereof is as under:

If these healthcare services were availed by the beneficiaries on their own, it would have resulted in out-of-pocket expenditure to the tune of 1.5 to 2 times the expenditure incurred under the scheme. The scheme has successfully contributed in curtailing out-of-pocket expenditure in the country.
