SAINIK SCHOOLS IN ASPIRATIONAL DISTRICTS

Will the Minister of Defence be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government proposes to open Sainik School for the children of defence personnel of 44th, 21st and 45th Battalions of Sashastra Seema Bal deployed in Valmikingar Parliamentary Constituency;
(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;
(c) whether the Government proposes to open Sainik Schools in the aspirational districts including Chitrakoot of Uttar Pradesh; and
(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d): The Government has approved the initiative of setting up of 100 new Sainik Schools in partnership with NGOs/Private Schools/State Governments in a graded manner class-wise, starting from Class 6 onwards, with an effort to cover as many States and UTs as possible, under the aegis of Sainik Schools Society, Ministry of Defence. 379 applications have been received by Sainik Schools Society, Ministry of Defence from NGOs/Private Schools/State Governments through web portal http://sainikschool.ncog.gov.in, which are subject to short-listing for approval based on meeting of qualifying requirements framed for the purpose and signing of the Memorandum of Agreement with the Sainik Schools Society. The initiative is open to all NGO/Private/State Government schools in any district of State/UT. No applications have been received from Valmikinagar, West Champaran, Bihar and Chitrakoot District, Uttar Pradesh.
