Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION be pleased to state:-
(a) whether Government has planned to construct any new airports by 2024, the Statewise details thereof; and
(b) how much funds have been proposed/allocated for the same, the details thereof?

(a) Yes, Sir. Government of India has accorded ‘in-principle’ approval for setting up of 21 Greenfield Airports across the country namely Mopa in Goa, Navi Mumbai and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra, Bijapur, Hassan and Shimoga in Karnataka, Datia (Gwalior) in Madhya Pradesh, Kushinagar and Noida in Uttar Pradesh, Dholera and Hirasar in Gujarat, Karaikal in Puducherry and Dagadarthi, Bhogapuram and Orvakal in Andhra Pradesh and Hollongi, Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh.

Out of these, five airports namely, Shirdi in Maharashtra, Durgapur in West Bengal, Pakyong in Sikkim, Kannur in Kerala and Kalaburagi in Karnataka have been operationalized. Besides this, Ministry of Civil Aviation has launched Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) – UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) on 21-10-2016 to stimulate regional air connectivity. An airport which is included in the awarded routes of RCS – UDAN and requires upgradation/development for commencement of RCS operations, is developed under “Revival of unserved and underserved airports” scheme. Under the scheme, as on 27.01.2021, 47 airports, 2 water aerodromes and 5 heliports have been revived/developed.

(b): Airports Authority of India (AAI) has earmarked Rs. 26000 Crore for infrastructure development at airports in next five years which includes the Greenfield airports at Hollongi in Arunachal Pradesh [Total Project cost (TPC): Rs. 646 Cr.], Hirasar in Gujarat (TPC – Rs.1405 Cr.), Dholera in Gujarat (TPC: Rs.1685 Cr.). Further, Cabinet committee on Economic Affairs has approved the proposal for revival of existing unserved / underserved airports / airstrips / heliports / water aerodromes of the State Governments, AAI, Public sector undertakings and Civil Enclaves at an estimated cost of Rs. 4500 Crore. As regards development of the Greenfield Airports by developers other than AAI, the funding of such projects is the sole responsibility of the respective developers.
