Target Under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana

To achieve the objective of “Housing for All” by 2022, in rural areas of the country, the Government has re-structured the erstwhile rural housing scheme Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY) into Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana- Gramin (PMAY-G) w.e.f. 1st April, 2016.

The target under PMAY-G is construction of 2.95 crore houses by year 2021-22 in two phases. Under Phase-I (2016-17 to 2018-19), against the target of 1 crore houses, 97.9 lakh houses have been sanctioned and 85.7 lakh houses have been completed, as on 06.12.2019. The target for Phase II (2019-20 to 2021-22) is construction of 1.95 crore houses. In 2019-20, target of 51,05,396 houses have been allocated to the States/UTs out of which 39,03,140 beneficiaries have been given sanctions and 2,56,852 houses have been completed as on 06.12.2019. As per the Framework for Implementation of PMAY-G, the time given for construction of PMAY-G house is 12 months from the date of sanction.

Will the Minister of RURAL DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state:
  • (a) whether many States are lagging behind in terms of the target set to provide maximum benefit to the people residing in rural areas of the country under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) during the last five years;
  • (b) if so, the details thereof, State-wise;
  • (c) whether the pace of work is slow in the North-Eastern States, hilly areas and tribal areas of the country under the said scheme; and
  • (d) if so, the details thereof, State-wise?
