Government/private nursing colleges in the Country as on 31st October, 2023

Government initiatives for nursing education include the relaxation of norms for nursing colleges, announcing 157 new colleges, and approving two in Maharashtra under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme for Augmenting Nursing Education.

Will the Minister of HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE be pleased to state:

(a) the number of the Government/Private Nursing colleges in the country at present, State/UT-wise including Maharashtra;

(b) the details of the Government/Private Nursing Colleges set up in the country during the last five years and the current year State/UT-wise including Maharashtra;

(c) the steps taken by the Government to cater to the needs of the said Colleges including essential basic amenities/infrastructure;

(d) the details of the criteria for setting up new Nursing Colleges with essential basic amenities/infrastructure in the country; and

(e) whether the Government proposes to set up Government/Private Nursing Colleges in all the districts of Maharashtra including Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg district and the aspirational district Osmanabad and if so, the details thereof?

(a) The State-UT wise number of Government/ private nursing colleges in the Country including Maharashtra is at Annexure-I.

(b) The the details of the Government/Private Nursing Colleges set up in the country during the last five years and the current year State/UT-wise including Maharashtra is at Annexure- II.

(c)&(d) The Government has taken the following steps to cater to the needs of the nursing colleges:

(i) In the budget speech 2023-24 establishment of 157 nursing colleges have been announced under Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS).

(ii) For Nursing Educational Programmes Student patient ratio has been relaxed from 1:5 to 1:3.

(iii) The land requirement for Nursing Educational Institutes has been relaxed to construct building of 54,000 sq. ft. for School/College of Nursing including Hostel.

(iv) To open GNM and B.Sc. (Nursing) programme 100 bedded parent hospital is essential since 2013-2014. However, this is relaxed for hilly and tribal areas.

(v) Relaxed norms for teaching faculty to start B.Sc. (N) Programme.

(vi) Super specialty Hospital can start M.Sc. (N) without having under graduate programme.

(vii) Maximum of 100 seats will be granted to the institutions for B.Sc.(N)/GNM programmes which are having parent hospital with 300 beds without insisting on Medical College.

(viii) Distance from school to hospital has been relaxed.

(ix) Eligibility Criteria for admission to nursing programmes relaxed.

(e) Under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) for “Augmenting Nursing Education- Establishment of new College of Nursing (CoN) in co-location with Medical College” 157 nursing colleges have been approved of which two are in Maharashtra at Gondia and Nandurbar districts.
