Establishment of New Central Universities

Will the Minister of EDUCATION be pleased to state:
(a) the number of Central Universities established by the Government in Maharashtra for providing higher education along with the details thereof;
(b) whether the Government gives priority for providing higher education in aspirational districts;
(c) if so, the number of districts in which proposals for establishing new Universities, Colleges, Kendriya Vidyalayas and Sainik Schools have been approved along with the details thereof;

(d) whether the Government of Maharashtra has sent a proposal for construction of a Central University in Dharashiv district of Usmanabad Lok Sabha Constituency; and
(e) if so, the policy formulated by the Government along with details thereof?

(a) to (e) There is one Central University in the state of Maharashtra namely Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, Wardha. Ministry of Education, Government of India is supporting the Institutes of National Importance like Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Mumbai, National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE)-Mumbai, Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT)- Pune and Nagpur, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS)-Mumbai, Indian Institute of Management-Nagpur, Indian Institute of Science Education and research (IISER)-Pune, Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUACAA)- Pune, which are all situated in the State of Maharashtra. At present there is no proposal under consideration for establishment of a Central University in Usmanabad.
The Central Universities/institutions are envisaged to function more as pace setter institutions to provide academic leadership to other institutions in the region. The Government of India has supported establishment of 9 Model Degree Colleges in Maharashtra under Rashtriya Uchchatar  Shiksha  Abhiyan  (RUSA)  Scheme.  The  Government  has  also  approved  the
 
Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA) under which setting up of new Model Degree Colleges is supported. ‘Education’ being a concurrent subject, the State Governments are also taking various initiatives to address the issue of higher education in the respective States.
