Vacancies of Teaching Staffs in Central Universities
1445 Shri A. A. Rahim:
Will the Minister of Education be pleased to state:
(a) how many teaching posts are vacant in Central Universities in the country at each level, social category-wise data thereof;
(b) how many permanent appointments were made during the last four years, year-wise and University-wise;
(c) at present, how many teachers are working in Central Universities on a temporary basis/ contractual basis; and
(d) how many permanent teachers belong to SC/ST/OBC categories, University-wise, how many people belong to SC/ST/OBC categories in temporary appointments?

(a) & (b) As on 01.04.2023, 5825 teaching posts are lying vacant in 45 Central Universities, running in regular mode, under purview of Ministry of Education. The details are as under:-

Occurring of vacancies and filling thereof is a continuous process. The vacancies arise due to retirement, resignation and additional requirements on account of enhanced students’ strength. The Ministry of Education and University Grants Commission (UGC) continuously monitors it with the Central Universities (CUs). However, the onus of filling up the posts lies on the Central Universities (CUs) which are autonomous bodies created under Acts of Parliament. Ministry of Education has given directive to UGC and all the CUs to fill up the vacancies in mission mode. So far, more than 4000 teaching posts have been filled under the ongoing Mission mode recruitment drive.
(c) The number of teachers (category-wise) working on temporary basis (including contractual, ad-hoc etc.) in 45 Central Universities (as on 01.04.2023), running in regular mode, under the purview of Ministry of Education are as under:-

(d) As on 01.04.2023, 3947 permanent teachers belong to SC/ST/OBC categories and 694 teaching positions filled on temporary basis (including contractual, ad-hoc etc.) are occupied by SC/ST/OBC categories in 45 Central Universities, running in regular mode, under the purview of Ministry of Education.
