100 new Sainik schools in partnership mode with NGOs/Private/State Government schools in all States/UTs

4100.  SHRI ANUBHAV MOHANTY:

Will the Minister of DEFENCE be pleased to state:

(a) the reasons for not opening any new Sainik School in Odisha;

(b) whether any communication has been sent to the Government of Odisha regarding opening of the Sainik School in the State; and

(c) if so, the details thereof along with the response received in this regard?

(a) to (c):   There are two existing Sainik schools in Odisha under the erstwhile pattern of Sainik Schools namely (i) Sainik School Bhubaneshwar and (ii) Sainik School Sambalpur.

Further, the Government has approved a scheme of setting up of 100 new Sainik schools in partnership mode with NGOs/Private/State Government schools in all States/UTs including the State of Odisha subject to fulfillment of qualifying requirements and signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Sainik Schools Society. Sainik Schools Society, Ministry of Defence has sent communications to all State Governments/Union Territories including Government of Odisha in order to give wide publicity for inviting applications from Private/NGOs/State Government Schools under this scheme. Towards this, no application has been received for opening of new Sainik Schools from the State Government of Odisha.
