New University at Vikramshila University Site

Will the Minister of EDUCATION be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government proposes to establish a new Central University at the historic site of Vikramshila University;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether a three-member Committee under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor of the South Bihar Central University was supposed to select appropriate piece of land for the purpose;
(d) if so, the details thereof;
(e) whether the said Committee had submitted the interim report to the Government in March, 2021; and
(f) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (f): The PM Package for Bihar, 2015 inter-alia provides for establishment of a new Central University near Bhagalpur at the historic site of Vikramshila University. The Government of Bihar has to offer the sites free from all encumbrances for the proposed University. The Site Selection Committee of this Ministry visited the sites offered by the Government of Bihar on 11th February 2022 and submitted the report. The Committee has requested for another location as the proposed sites were not found suitable.
