New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Wednesday held a Workshop on ‘Recent Initiatives for Simplifying Aadhaar usage’. The workshop focused on sharing key developments and practices in Aadhaar Usage adopted by various departments of the State Governments and Union Territories (UTs).

To promote further use of Aadhar Card, UIDAI has identified five areas. UIDAI to focus on Resident centricity and Ease of Access, Enhancing Aadhaar usage, Strengthening credibility of Aadhaar. UIDAI to also focus on upgradation of Aadhaar technology stack & International outreach of Aadhaar architecture.

Amitabh Kant, CEO, NITI Aayog said, “Aadhaar has played a critical role in bridging the digital divide, it is the bedrock of various government schemes and service deliveries. Aadhar has made monumental impact digitization of public infrastructure which has enabled more inclusive development." He further said that UPI has done more than what MasterCard has done in the past 40 years.

TV Somanathan, Finance Secretary said, "The role of Aadhaar in the PDS schemes is one of the legendary examples. We as Indians must be proud of the fact that Aadhaar was created by us, not copied from the western world."

More than 133 Crore Aadhaars have been issued as of April 2022. 99.9% of adults in India have an Aadhar Card. Since its inception Aadhar Card has helped bridge the digital divide and helped in smooth roll-out of various government's direct benefit transfer schemes. The card has helped in pushing e-KYC services, eased services. The Government of India has also received a lot of interest in Aadhar Card from various countries across the world.

Dr. Saurabh Garg, CEO, UIDAI said, “Aadhaar has given fundamental identity in sectors like DBT, Education, scholarships, fintech, healthcare, etc. There are various untapped sectors and gaps that can be exploited by using Digital Identity to reach the last mile of users and achieve universal inclusion, both social and financial."

He further added, "We have reached a milestone after a decade where every adult has an Aadhar Card. Certain areas have less saturation, need to increase Aadhar penetration in those areas. We now need to focus on how identification can be done without the use of the internet.”
