Will the Minister of EDUCATION be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has launched Pradhan Mantri Yuva Yojana (PMYY) to train young and budding authors (of less than 30 years of age) in order to promote Indian heritage, culture and education system of the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the salient features of the said scheme;

(c) the number of such writers participating under the said Scheme;

(d) whether the Government has any plan under the said scheme to translate the literature from one language to another Indian language in view of “Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat” so as to ensure the exchange of literature and culture; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) Pradhan Mantri – Mentorships’s Scheme for Young writers (PM-YUVA) has been launched by the Ministry of Education on 29 May 2021 for young writers upto the age of 30 years.

(b) The salient features of the scheme are as follows :

i. A contest was organized to select young authors. The theme of the contest was ‘National Movement of India’ with ‘Unsung Heroes’, “Role of Unknown Places in Freedom Movement’ etc as focus areas.

ii. The contestants were asked to submit a manuscript of 5000 words to judge their suitability to develop as a proper book under the mentorship scheme.

iii. Proposals were invited in all twenty-two official Indian languages and English

iv. The  selection  was made  by a  Committee  constituted by  National  Book Trust (NBT).

v. The results were announced on 25.12.2021.

vi. Mentors have been assigned to guide and develop the selected proposals into full- fledged books.

vii. A consolidated scholarship of Rs. 50,000 per month for a period of six months per author is to be paid under the mentorship scheme.

viii. 10% royalty will also be paid by NBT on publication and sale of the books.

(c) A total of seventy-five authors have been selected through the All India contest.

(d) & (e) The books selected under the PM-YUVA Scheme will be translated into different Indian languages to ensure the exchange of Indian culture and literature in order to promote `Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’. The translations will be undertaken after the publication in original language.
