PRADHAN MANTRI FASAL BIMA YOJANA
STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 126 DUE FOR REPLY ON 12TH FEBRUARY, 2019.
(a) & (b) With a view to provide a simple and affordable crop insurance scheme to ensure comprehensive risk cover for crops against all non-preventable natural risks from pre-sowing to post-harvest, and to provide adequate claim amount and timely settlement of claims, a yield based scheme namely Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), and weather index based scheme, namely, Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme (RWBCIS), have been launched from Kharif 2016 by the Government.
These schemes are optional for the States and they have to select insurance company, notify the crops & areas and provide past yield data to fix threshold yield and actual yield of current season to settle the claims under the schemes. Himachal Pradesh is implementing both the schemes and Jharkhand is implementing PMFBY only since inception of these schemes. Details of coverage during 2016-17 and 2017 in these States is given in the following table:

(c) All food and oilseed crops and commercial/horticultural crops can be notified under the scheme subject to availability of past yield data based on requisite number of Crop Cutting Experiments and capacity of the States to conduct the requisite number of CCEs for each crop and insurance unit area. - (a) the details of success achieved by the Government in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) in Himachal Pradesh;
- (b) the number of farmers insured under the scheme in Jharkhand; and
- (c) the types of crops for which insurance has been sought thereunder and the amount of insurance money disbursed till date in this regard?
