Unified Pension Scheme: 12,258 Claims Received, 9,823 Processed
The Government has informed Parliament that 25,756 retired Central Government employees are eligible to receive additional benefits under the Unified Pension Scheme (UPS).
In a written reply to Lok Sabha Unstarred Question No. 218 on July 20, 2026, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary provided an update on the implementation of the Unified Pension Scheme.
According to the Ministry of Finance, as of July 9, 2026, a total of 12,258 claims have been submitted by eligible retired Central Government subscribers seeking additional benefits under the UPS. Of these, 9,823 claims have already been processed for payment, while the remaining applications are under examination.
The Government clarified that the Unified Pension Scheme has been introduced as an option under the National Pension System (NPS) exclusively for Central Government employees covered under the NPS. The scheme provides eligible subscribers with additional pension-related benefits in accordance with its notified provisions.
Responding to questions on whether similar benefits would be extended to other pension schemes or sectors, the Government stated that no such proposal is currently under consideration. It reiterated that the UPS is presently limited to Central Government employees enrolled under the National Pension System.
