Will the Minister of HOME AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) the total number of Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Afghan citizens who have applied for Indian Citizenship after the implementation of Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019;
(b) the total number of Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Afghan citizens who have been granted Indian Citizenship after the implementation of Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019;
(c) whether Government proposes to extend the deadline of December 31, 2014 written in the said Act; and
(d) whether the intended purpose has been fulfilled by the implementation of the said Act?

(a) to (d): The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA) has been notified on 12.12.2019 and has come into force w.e.f. 10.01.2020. The Committee on Subordinate Legislation, Lok Sabha has granted extension of time up to 09 October, 2021 to frame the rules under the CAA. The Committee on Subordinate Legislation, Rajya Sabha has been requested to grant extension of time upto 09.01.2022 to frame these rules. Eligible persons covered under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 may submit applications for grant of citizenship under this Amendment Act after appropriate rules are notified by the Central Government.
No proposal to extend the deadline is under consideration at present.
