Will the Minister of Culture Be pleased to state:

(a) whether Government has conducted any survey on historically important buildings including monuments/forts, if so, the details thereof, State/UT-wise particularly in Tamil Nadu, District wise;

(b) whether any funds were allocated to maintain and repair these monuments/forts in Tamil Nadu, if so, the details of the list of buildings repaired in Tamil Nadu during the last three years, year-wise, district-wise and along with the funds allocated and spent thereon; and

(c) whether Government has any plan to develop these places as a world class tourist spot so as to attract tourists from across the world and develop tourism in Tamil Nadu?

(a) Conducting Survey/exploration to identify/located ancient sites/monuments/building or fort is a regular phenomenon of Archaeological Survey of India. Details of potential monuments/sites identified for declaring them as Centrally Protected Monuments/ Sites is at Annexure.

(b) The Conservation work of Centrally Protected Monuments in the Country, including 412 monuments of Tamil Nadu, is attended regularly by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) according to the need and as per the availability of funds and resources, and there in a good state of preservation.
The expenditure incurred during the last three years including allocation for this year are as under :

  • 2018-19….809.50 lakhs
  • 2019-20….960.00 lakhs
  • 2020-21….525.00 lakhs
  • 2021-22….500.00 lakhs(Allocation).

(c) Providing tourist facilities and upgrading existing one at centrally protected monuments is a regular exercise. Further, ASI has identified 7 monuments from the state of Tamilnadu as Adarsh monuments for providing additional facilities like Wi-Fi, Cafeteria, Interpretation Centre, Brail signages, Illumination, sound & Light Show, etc. One site namely Adichanallur has been announced to be developed as Iconic site.
